Terms & conditions

The small print, kept as short and fair as we can.

BirthdayRewind is a UK business. These terms apply when you buy a book from us. Please read them before ordering. Use our contact form.

1. What we sell

A personalised book about the day and year someone was born, as a printed hardback book (21 cm square, 24 inside pages plus covers, with the PDF included), plus UK delivery or as a PDF download. The preview shows you the book before you buy, and the printed book will match the preview, apart from normal small differences between screens and print.

2. Prices and payment

Prices are shown in pounds sterling and include VAT. UK delivery is charged once per hardback book order and shown before you pay. Payment is taken by Stripe when you place your order. Our contract with you begins when your payment is confirmed.

3. Your details and content

You're responsible for checking the names, dates, town and any message or gift note before you order. We print what you've entered. Please only include content you have the right to use, and nothing offensive or unlawful. We may refuse or cancel an order (with a full refund) if we reasonably think the content isn't suitable.

4. About the facts

The book is put together from public historical records, including Wikipedia, Wikidata, the Met Office, the Office for National Statistics and the UK singles chart. We check our data carefully, but historical records sometimes contain mistakes or differ from one another, and some figures (such as prices and weather) are averages or estimates. The book is a fun keepsake, not an official record. If you spot something wrong in your preview, please report it before ordering. If there's a significant factual error in a book you've received that was our mistake, tell us within 30 days and we'll put it right.

5. Delivery

We deliver to UK addresses. Delivery times on our delivery page are estimates, not guarantees, and we're not responsible for delays caused by things outside our reasonable control (for example postal disruption or severe weather).

6. Cancellations and returns

Because each book is personalised and made to order, the usual 14-day right to cancel doesn't apply to it (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013). PDF downloads are supplied straight away with your agreement, so you can't cancel once the download is available. You can ask to change or cancel an order before it goes to print, which is usually within one working day.

7. If something's wrong

Your legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 aren't affected by these terms. If your book is damaged, faulty or not as described, contact us within 14 days of delivery and we'll reprint it or refund you. Lost parcels are covered on our delivery page.

8. Photos and design

The book's design, text and layouts belong to us. Photos are used under their own licences (public domain, Creative Commons or the Open Government Licence) and are credited on each page. Nobody pictured in the book endorses it. You may keep, share and print your book for personal use, but not resell it.

9. Our liability

We're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that's a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not taking reasonable care, up to the amount you paid for the order. We're not responsible for losses that aren't foreseeable, or for business losses. Nothing here limits our liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited.

10. The law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
